Community Emergency Hubs: Cumbria-wide rollout (and how it links to what Alston Moor already does)

Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council have issued this launch document on behalf of the Cumbria Local Resilience Forum, setting out a Cumbria-wide approach to Community Emergency Hubs and starter kits.

For Alston Moor, the key point is simple: we’re already ahead of the curve. Our local arrangements—supported by Alston Moor Emergency Response Group (AMERG) and the Alston Moor Response Group—already include hubs and practical kit resources. This document is helpful because it:

  • Confirms the model officially across Cumbria (so we’re working in step with partner agencies)
  • Sets out shared expectations and terminology, which makes coordination easier during real incidents
  • Supports the case for keeping plans, contacts and hub arrangements current (even when everything feels quiet)

We’re sharing the document here for reference so residents, volunteers and local organisations can see how the wider system describes hubs, what they’re for, and how communities fit into the bigger resilience picture.

We have also added the document to the Documents section of this site.
