Privacy and data security
Information you give here is stored securely and can only be seen by authorised emergency coordinators. It is only used for welfare checks and arranging help during emergencies.
Being a good neighbour
In rural communities like Alston Moor, neighbours are often the first line of support. During a power cut or storm, checking on those around you can save lives.
Warning signs to look for
- Curtains drawn during the day
- Lights left on during the day
- Milk or post piling up
- No smoke from the chimney (if they use solid fuel)
- House in darkness at night
- Distressed pets
How you can help
Knock and check
If it is safe, knock on the door. Ask if they have heat, food and water.
Share information
They might not have the internet. Share news about the power coming back or warm hubs.
Offer help
Can you fetch shopping? Clear snow? Bring a flask of hot water?
