Get a free home fire safety visit
Cumbria Fire and Rescue check your home and may fit a smoke alarm. You can ask for someone else. Ring 0800 358 4777 (free).
Have a care alarm or a phone you rely on?
Most landlines move to digital by January 2027. A digital landline will not work in a power cut unless it has a back-up. If you have no mobile or no signal, ask your phone company for a battery back-up. Care alarms may also stop in a power cut – check with your alarm supplier. Read more on GOV.UK
Cannot speak on the phone?
If you are deaf, hard of hearing or cannot speak, you can text 999 – but only after you register. Text register to 999, then follow the reply. How it works
